On
Sunday the 21st of May we celebrated the clubs 32nd Birthday with a drive
to Maroondah Reservoir for lunch. At 8.30am the first group met at our
Club Rooms in Moorabbin for a 9.00 am departure,
The weather was quite fine but it had quite a winter chill in the air.
Just after 9.00am we departed for Pakenham via Dandenong to join our second
group. We all assembled as arranged in Doherty Street at approximately
10.00am and waited as the others joined us.

As our group slowly grew in size, our cars started to attracted a bit
interest with a few of the locals coming around for a look; its not often
that you see around thirty American Classic and High Performance cars
parked in a side street of a country town.
At approximately 10.30am as organised we split up into two groups those
us that wished to travel at a much brisker pace left first (a whole three
of them), the rest of us approximately thirty cars left a few minutes
later.
After all receiving a set of printed instructions (so none us could get
lost - hopefully) we were on our way, we headed out onto the Princess
Highway towards Warrigal for a short distance and then turned left at
the Healesville - Koo Wee Rup road and headed through Pakenham Upper.
Our group continued through Mt Burnett and on to Cockatoo were turned
off to the Woori Yallock Road we then continued on through Nangana towards
Yellingbo.
In this area on the previous Friday as I was going over our route to make
sure all my directions were correct, I came across two of the next generation
Commodores going in the other direction, both with their leather car bras
fitted to the front and rear ends to disguise them (I had just seen spy
pictures of them in the Sun Cars Section that morning).
After going through Yellingbo (a ‘huge place’, with only
one house to be seen) we headed towards Woori Yallock, where we had to
a couple of turns along the Warburton Highway to stay on the Healesville
Koo Wee Rup road. We then went past the biggest Strawberry farm I have
ever seen just prior to going along the back of the Healesville Sanctuary
near Bagger Creek. At the end of this road we turned right to head through
Healesville and onto our final destination at Maroondah Reservoir just
prior to 12.00 noon.
Upon our arrival at the Watts River Rotunda we
meet up with some of our other members that had travelled directly
to there.
Alan McCormack had erected all the Banners for all the sub groups,
thoughts being, Chevrolet Car Club, Camaro Firebird group, Vic Vettes
group, and two new banners, which were one for the Gippsland/Latrobe
group, and the other one for our Northern chapter.
At around 12.15 pm we all (around 80 of us in total) sat down to
a magnificent Spit Roast lunch with all the trimmings which was
followed up with Apple Strudel or a choice of a couple different
Cheese Cakes.
A truly magnificent lunch for only a mere $25.00 per head.

After lunch we had our President Robert Goldman gave us a short
Speech thanking us all for or participation in such great event.
He then went on to present a number of Service Awards to the following
members:
-
Norm Darwin for his untiring effort’s as editor of the
Bowtie Club Magazine.
-
Max Baudinette for his leadership of the South Western Region
and there efforts in raising funds for the Warrnambool Base
Hospital.
-
Larry Dickson from the Northern Chapter for his service to
this group and leading them through some difficult times. And
also for efforts of gaining Radio and Press support in rejuvenating
the group’s numbers.
-
Neil Titford of the Gippsland/Latrobe group for establishing
and running this Sub Group.
-
John Smith for consistent years of service to the club.
-
Jon Burstow for establishing and maintaining our Club Web Site.
(and a heap of other stuff)
Jon was also named Member of the year by our President.

After
the presentations were completed a number of us went to the Gembrook Motor
museum with Michael Klein (he intends to have a separate report on what
he, and some other members viewed there as I was unable to attend).
I would also thank Alan and Jill McCormack for their assistance by getting
there a bit earlier than the rest of us to set up the Banners and put
the soft drinks on ice. I would also like to thank June McGuigan and Sybil
Taylor who ran the raffle.
