Chev Car Club's 30th Birthday

The Chevrolet Car Club of Victoria Inc.
30th birthday run to Castlemaine!

By Ken James, Member #591

In the February club Bowtie Magazine Marty (Mavrik) put that the Club was coming to Castlemaine for the Birthday Run.
Living in the area, I could not sit back and do nothing, so I got together as much information as I could of the area and a rough outline of what I thought would appeal to the Members attending as I wanted to keep you all together as much as possible for meals and things to see and do, and sent it off to Marty.
After a few phone calls we had it put together. Accommodation and meals were booked. Then the time arrived, the weekend was here, and Saturday morning it was down the Calder in the 56 to meet the Melbourne group and bring them to Castlemaine and pick up the Warrnambool and the rest of the Melbourne group.

Then off to the Restorer's Barn for a look and buy, then to the Harcourt Fire Brigade for lunch where we were joined by a guy from Mildura and his friends from Castlemaine and a group from Daylesford.
Then to Henery of Harcourt Cidery and Welsh black cattle, then Harcourt Valley Winery and back to Castlemaine and the XXXX complex.

Dinner was at Fuel where some chose the "movie and meal" deal, and the rest the pick of the menu.
After the meal, some went to the movies, some the pub and the rest to their accommodation.
Sunday we all met at Maine Family Restaurant for breakfast, then off to see my garage at Harcourt (and pick up the '27), then to North Harcourt to good friends of ours, Norm and Jan Deumer's, garage and collection of cars and bits and pieces. Norm showed how to peel an apple and put a point on a pick with his forge.

Then back to Castlemaine to park the cars at Continuing Ed. For the Show and Shine and security. (A couple of ladies braved the cold and had a ride in the '27). Then a brisk walk to the Bridge Hotel for the Birthday Lunch and meet up with the Melbourne and Albury Members that came for the lunch. Then it was "Goodbye" and head for home.
I enjoyed putting the weekend on. You were a great bunch of people and your cooperation and assistance that you gave me over the weekend was much appreciated. Also, thanks a lot to Marty - you were a great person to work with.

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend and see you sometime soon.
Ken.
