The South Western Sub Group held its annual car show on the weekend of October 22nd – 23rd in conjunction with the annual Melbourne to Warrnambool cycling classic.
This year the number of cars for display was down on last year however those of us who attended had a very pleasant weekend.
The Saturday dawned overcast but we were favoured with a beautiful sunny day.

Two couples from the Vic Vettes joined us for the weekend, Alan and Jill along with Allan and Erica, made the journey from Melbourne. We also had the support again from the Port Fairy crew with some their beautiful 55-56 and 57’s.

Two cars from Hamilton, both were driven tow Warrnambool for a wedding and their owners were kind enough to come early and display their cars.
The Mayor of Warrnambool Cr Glenys Philpot again cast her very amateur eyes over the collection of cars and picked her favourites in three categories. We asked her to pick which ones she would most like to take home. In the sports section she picked Alan and Jill’s Camaro, in the big car section she chose

Shane Kelson’s 1956 Chev, and in the best local car she chose Alan and Jenny Carey’s 1956 4 door. After the display we had dinner at the Warrnambool football club, we all enjoyed a very nice two-course meal with some drinks and a chat.

Alan and Jenny immaculate 1956 Chev, which won the mayor's favourite local car.

Sunday morning dawned wet and cold but the show must go on, Breakfast was at Lake Pertobe, which the group provided at no charge. Cereal, juice bacon and eggs kept the cold wind at bay.
After breakfast we had a cruise to Camperdown, after viewing some of the sights we had a two-course roast lunch, checked the answers to the general knowledge quiz the participants answered along the way, Allan and Erica won the prize after a tiebreaker.

After saying farewell to our Melbourne guests and waving them on way the group headed back to Warrnambool. Although the numbers were disappointing we all enjoyed ourselves and hope for a bigger attendance next year.
As soon as the date for the race is available to the sub group we will advertise in the Bowtie.
