In my clapped out XT Ford Falcon I arrived to visit a friend who imported spare parts and some vehicles from California. It was not the first time he had tempted me to buy one of these vehicles. But this time I fell for this beauty, a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta.

I never thought I would go for a, green automobile! However, I was sold on the unusual harmonious light green colour scheme and gracious curves.

I like to think of the colour as a soft pastel green, finished off with green factory pinstripe transfers. Unlike more aggressive colours of the sporty Z28 Camaros I have seen, this pastel green is understated and complements its beautiful flowing lines, most suitable for the experience of cruising in grand style.

The interior is also coordinated in an attractive combination of plush greens.

My Berlinetta was last on show back in the early '90s. Once at the All American Car Show at Flemington Race Track, Melbourne before conversion to right hand drive and after conversion, at the 1991 American GM Day held at nearby Kingston Centre, Heatherton.

An often asked question is what size is the engine? - Engine displacement is 350 cubic inches/5.7L.

In my time with the club I have only known of 3 Berlinettas to appear on the club register, so if you see me cruising around Melbourne, give me a wave.

I am happy to say that my Berlinetta was well received by members when this photo was taken at Club Headquarters, August 2002 meeting of the Camaro/Trans Am/Firebird Group.
The experience reminded me of how lucky I am to own a Camaro Berlinatta.

Though the Internet i found the Sales Catalogue for my '79 Camaro Berlinetta.
