Michael's Studebaker Original Colour: Navy Blue. Known History Studebakers were somewhat of a prestige car in their time, being priced at more than FOUR TIMES the cost of the Chev of the day, and were clearly aimed to compete in the Buick and Cadillac market. Studebaker was also unique in that they survived as a standalone manufacturer up until the mid-sixties without being subsumed into either Ford or GM, and were also one of two US companies that started as huge coach and buggy builders and succeeded in making the transition into car manufacture in a big way, the other was a company that eventually became GM. For a brief time in the early 1900's they marketed an electric car - even sold one to Thomas Edison. I know two of the previous four Australian owners, one being outlived by this car, another very recently used the car as a daily driver! I shall be speaking soon with the person who originally imported it, and shall update this page when I have the full, and no doubt - interesting , story. The car is currently registered and set up as a wedding
hire car, I intend to continue to operate it as such - that way I
can justify to 'er indoors that we really DO need it ! |
